Richard Nanes at the United Nations

Richard Nanes has emerged as a vital musical force on the interna- tional concert scene. Not only have his symphonic works garnered considerable acclaim and thus been a testament to his gifts as a com- poser, but his piano recitals have established his reputation as a dynamic performer at the keyboard. Richard Nanes won the Composer of the Year Award from the International Academie des Beaux Arts. In this concert taped live at the United Nations, composer and pianist Richard Nanes performs a varied program of his own works. Nanes' music is generally conservative in character, and it embraces a wide range of styles and influences. "The closest anyone has come is to call me a Neo Romantic," he says, " I really have two strains of musical thought which co-exist in me in equal measure: The Romantics - Liszt and Rachmaninoff - and the Moderns such as Prokofiev and Shostakovich."
