5160 steel is often known for its use in leaf springs. 5160 is an alloy known for its fantastic knife making properties. This is a medium carbon deep hardening steel that is known to produce blades with excellent toughness. Please note that this steel is hot rolled and has no finishing work done to it aside from cutting to length. This means that edges of the bars are rounded. The surface condition has some scale & may have some surface rust. None of these factors impact the workability of the material, but should be kept in mind prior to purchase.
