With an average length of six metres, the Dilophosaurus probably weighed 500 KG. Its neck was long and slender. Because of its large skull, its head was slightly over-sized. In addition, the upper jaw was bent forward. Due to its light body and long hind limbs, it was probably a faster, more agile predator that may have hunted prey while sprinting. Its teeth, however, were not suitable at all for hunting large prey. They were narrow and pin-like and, according to some scientists, would be split after one bite into a bone. That is why it killed its prey using the claws on the hind and front legs. The most distinctive characteristic of Dilophosaurus was the pair of rounded crests on its skull, possibly used for display.
