Sewing Pattern - Early 1870's (Bustle Hat) Hat Pattern. View A, a Bustle era hat with a bandeaux but no crown It is being modeled in the images. View B a Bustle era hat with a bandeaux and a small crown. It can be worn as shown or rotated 90 degrees. It can also be worn without the bandeaux and a little more forward. This is a Mid 1880's style hat, with an arched turned up brim and a very small crown. Below is the same hat with the straw dyed violet and violets added to the underbrim. View A version 1 of the hat with stripe ribbon and black silk fabric bows, it also has some faux bird wings and tails in both black and white. There is also quite a bit of fine black net. View A version 2 a fabric covered version of this hat. The top two have a faux wing and the bottom two have some faux forked tails. The fashion plate image included is a very similar hat but without a bandeaux to lift it in back. It is worn forward on the head. There could be a crown under that pleated fabric but perhaps not. Note that it is being worn as a bonnet with ribbon ties.
