There are no actors in this movie. All the individuals on the submarine are actual military personnel. One of the most fascinating Italian films of World War II, “S.O.S. Submarine” is a re-creation of a submarine disaster enacted by non-professionals and military personnel. Not a war movie, the film highlights the humanity of men caught in a bad situation and their attempt to pull together for the common good. During a training exercise, the submarine A-103 collides with a surface vessel that unexpectedly crosses its path. The submarine drops to the ocean floor immobilized. Reserve air supply will last only 30 hours. A submarine from their division arrives at the scene and a series of daring rescue attempts are made. Some crew members are sent up to the surface one by one by means of a capsule. The remaining men make every attempt to get survive, but time is running out quickly.
