A popular annual for hanging baskets, the front of the border, rock gardens, and as a summer ground cover, Nolana paradoxa grows quickly and blooms all summer long. It is commonly called Chilean Bellflower, and it produces a low-growing, 4 6 inches in height, succulent spreading foliage and large, showy, trumpet-shaped flowers that are blue. Nolana likes a position in full sun to partial shade, and it needs well-drained fertile soil. Start the seed directly outdoors in the spring after frost danger has passed. Press the seed into the soil and lightly cover it keeping it moist until germination occurs. With a temperature of 70F, germination is usually within 14 days. Plants can be spaced about 12 inches apart.
