Product Description The sizzling USA recording debut from Canada's hottest-playing and coolest-singing acoustic roots band! Review "Deviously clever." -- David Greierson, CBC Radio "It's hard to believe mere fiddles, accordion, mandolin, guitar, bass and occasional piano can create textures so elaborate and colorful." -- Toronto Star "The biggest blast of fresh air to come out of Canada since The Band." -- Glasgow Herald About the Artist Since their first CD and touring efforts in 2000, The Bills (Marc Atkinson, Chris Frye, Adrian Dolan, Glen Manders and Jeremy Penner) have built a strong international reputation for being both boldy innovative and yet true to the global acoustic traditions that they revere. They have released three critically acclaimed CDs in Canada, and their steady touring has taken them from Copenhagen to California, and Alaska to Edinburgh. The Bills began as The Bill Hilly Band in 1996, when Canadian jazz/rock musician Marc Atkinson and some friends took up acoustic instruments and began exploring folk tunes from around the world. Along the line, Marc became impressed by the powerful singing and deep knowledge of traditional music held by one of his jazz guitar students, Chris Frye, and he was soon added to the group. The band began to fearlessly blend many styles into their music: choro music from Brazil, gypsy jazz, hoedown and French Canadian sounds, sea chanteys, classical music and even an occasional Broadway musical classic. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, they became the rage of western Canada for their virtuosity and showmanship. They soon began to perform across the rest of the nation and the US where they were the consistent smash hit of every summer music festival at which they appeared. The current and familiar line up of the band began to solidify when some early members left and were replaced by gifted bassist Glen Manders, fiddler/accordionist/pianist Adrian Dolan and fiddler Jeremy Penner. Concerned about being tagged as a novelty band (they are far from it) the group officially shortened its name to "The Bills" with "Let Em Run." The group continues to expand its well-deserved reputation as one of the most exciting and entertaining acts in roots music.
