The Spirit of the Stage, a.k.a. the Fool, retells her rise from klutz to star in the first two episodes. She's supposed to appear in a new act with the brilliant but arrogant Leon, a French acrobat with an impossible accent, but he walks out in the middle of the show, leaving Sora to perform both halves of a duet. When he returns during the finale, Sora is challenged (on stage) by newcomer May Wong, who claims to be a more talented and appropriate partner for Leon. Sora's career has been built on winning over nasty rivals, so the end of the season is a foregone conclusion. New Wings is as weightless and saccharine as a wad of cotton candy.
