Product Description Dandoh was playing a baseball game with friends Yuka and Kohei and hits a wild fly ball which crashes into the principal's potted plants. Rather than getting mad, the principle admires Dandoh's swing and introduces him to the world of golf. It's now an adventure in golf as Dandoh is under the watchful eye of a former pro-golfer. They enter a tournament together and play for a shot at the national championships. Character design by Hidetoshi Omori, music by Yoko shimomura, produced by Tokyo Kids. Genre: Shounen/Sports. Amazon.com The 2004 broadcast series Dan Doh!! focuses on a game that's popular in Japan, but rarely appears in anime: golf. Fifth-grader Tadamichi "Dandoh" Aoba accidentally smashes a potted plant with a baseball, so his elementary school principal introduces him to golf. After a chance meeting, a promising golfer who was injured in accident agrees to coach Dandoh and his friends, Yuka and Kohei. All three progress rapidly: after two months of lessons, they're ready to enter the Kumamoto Elementary Tournament. With his spiky purple-blue hair, Dandoh looks a bit like Sonic the Hedgehog, and he's almost as energetic. He triumphs through a combination of indomitable spirit, commitment to the game, and a psychic bond with his "smiley face" ball. Unlike the heroes of other sports anime, Dandoh doesn't face many challenges. He can hit 220-yard drives in the fifth grade, and impossible shots are par for his course. Golf doesn't require the kind of team play demanded of Kazuhiko in Hoop Days or the grueling training Ippo undergoes in Fighting Spirit, and its limited repertoire of motions offers Iittle visual excitement. Dan Doh!! is a very tame series that may appeal to peewee duffers. (Rated 13 and older, but appropriate for viewers at least three years younger: minor cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon
