Hidcote Lavender is a true English lavender noted for its long lasting-sweet scent. It is a highly aromatic, smaller variety of common lavender. Hidcote Lavender flowers are darker than most other varieties, thus the name "Hidcote Blue" as they seem navy blue at times. The Hidcote Lavender plant makes a stunning addition to gardens, with its silvery foliage, or in flower arrangements, or as a culinary garnish. Lavender in general is known for its ability to retain its scent long after being dried or cut; it is a favorite ingredient for potpourris. The essential oils are extracted and used in soaps, perfumes and shampoos, and Aromatherapy products (as a cure for headaches and depression). If used as a cooking herb, its blooms can be used to flavor salads, desserts, drinks and stews. Lavender Hidcote is a compact plant growing to a height of only 14 inches, perfect for edging or creating a low growing hedge. Its beautiful silvery blue-green foliage is evergreen and remains attractive throughout the year. Place plants in a full sun location 12-18 inches apart. Lavender plants need a sandy well-draining soil with occasional watering (Lavender does not like wet feet). Flowers first begin to appear in mid-July and continue to appear into the later parts of September. Every part of the plant is infused with the sweet scent of its aromatic oil, making this a choice herb to place along pathways or near outdoor seating areas so you can savor the fragrance. The sweet fragrance is known to attract butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden. The Hidcote Lavender is drought, heat, and wind resistant
