Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais dominated this year, scoring 7 wins, 7 poles and a podium place for 11 of 14 starts - taking his third consecutive Champ Car title. He started the season perfectly with four victories in a row at Long Beach, Houston, Monterrey, and Milwaukee. But just when it started to look like a one horse race, his winning streak was ended by the emergence of American A. J. Allmendinger, who won three sequential races heading into summer. As the seasons changed the Frenchman regained points, and with an amazing performance at the finale in Mexico, he seized the 23rd victory of his Champ Car career. Justin Wilson secured 2nd place in the 2006 driver s championship with the help of Dan Clarke and Katherine Legge. Justin put in one of the grittiest performances of his career to take 2nd place for the CDW-RuSPORT team at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. After dominating the race with a heavily strapped wrist under mixed weather conditions, he narrowly missed out on the win.
