Product Description
2009 album from the Country singer/songwriter including the single 'Barefoot And Crazy'. The title track of Jack Ingram's new album, Big Dreams & High Hopes, recalls the dreams of a Houston kid who envisioned a life onstage from the time he first played a guitar. And because Jack sees so many aspiring musicians on the road at his shows, it's become a priority for him to reach out. ''As a musician, it's important for me to reach out to those kids who pick up a guitar and want to play. If I could have had some access to the artists I listened to when I was in my teens, it would have saved me a lot of aggravation. When I see these kids backstage or out front in the autograph line, and I get to talk with them, I sure hope I can provide them with some kind of knowledge and insight that prevents them from banging their head against the wall in frustration while trying to pursue their dream. What I tell 'em is exactly what I've learned: it's not that scary: you just have to keep on doing it every day. Whether you play an instrument or not, I want people to listen to my music, get that release, and walk away with the resolve to continue pursuing whatever goals they may have.''
Review
Back story: This is the long-delayed, much-anticipated follow-up to Ingram's 2007 disc "This Is It." It was supposed to be released early this year, but Ingram the perfectionist pulled back. He told Great American Country: "I got to make it right or else it's not worth it for me."
Finest moment: Ingram was looking for perfection; he may have just found it. This album rocks from start to finish, with memorable moments, including the ingenious pairing of his gritty, raw vocals with those of the angelic-voiced Patty Griffin on the shimmering ballad "Seeing Stars." Fans will buy this for the California country rocker "Barefoot and Crazy,"his latest and career fastest-chart-climbing song (No. 11 last week). But they will find it hard to skip past everything that follows, including the guitar-driven "The Man in Your Life," the spirit-lifting midtempo title song, and the heartbreaking album-closing ballad "In the Corner." -- Arizona Daily Starby Ken Tucker
Jack Ingram has graduated from the Texas circuit to the country mainstream in fine fashion, and his appropriately titled new release, "Big Dreams & High Hopes," will only help his star rise higher. Current chart-climbing single "Barefoot and Crazy" is already lighting up request lines and dancefloors, while the song "King of Wasted Time" paints a picture of desperation not easily forgotten. Other highlights include "Free," which finds Ingram echoing the best work of Glen Campbell , and his expressive vocals shine through on the stripped-down title cut. Ingram may be good on his own, but Patty Griffin's sweet harmonies on the enchanting "Seeing Stars" and Dierks Bentley's growls on Ingram's live classic "Barbie Doll" are welcome additions. On the latter tune, Little Big Town, The Lost Trailers, James Otto and Randy Houser make a fitting barroom choir. -- Billboard, August 14, 2009
