After 12,000 years of slumber, the beings known as Shadow Angels are attacking Earth again, kidnapping humans to drain their prana or life energy. Three teenage mecha pilots must "fuse" so their vehicles can combine to form the "Legendary Mechanical Angel Aquarion," mankind's greatest weapon. Complicating the story is the tale of Solar Wing, a Rebel Angel who sided with human in the previous war--and who is slated for reincarnation. Gen Fudo, the leader of the DEAVA special forces, believes that avatar is Apollo, a grungy street kid. Aristocratic pilots Silvia De Alisia and her brother Sirius refuse to accept the scruffy Apollo as the key to humanity's future. Aquarion is packed with action: every episode boasts at least one elaborate CG battle between the title mecha and one of the Angels' creations. But the story amounts to little more than a shameless Evangelion rip-off, with additional bits borrowed from Voltron and X.
