Selenite is a crystalized form of gypsum. It is one of four crystal structures of the mineral: selenite, satin spar, desert rose, gypsum flower. Selenites names comes from the Greek word for moon because the ancient Greeks believed that this crystal waxed and waned with the moon. This stone is very soft, it can even be scratched with a fingernail. Even minor exposure to water will ruin the finish on this stone. Selenites color is mostly white with other colors showing the presence of other minerals. This stone is mined in northern Africa. Selenite is associated with the (6th) third eye chakra.
