Also known as Zaatar, Za'atar, Zahatar, Satar, Zatr and Zatar Zahtar Spice Blend is a combination of Thyme, Sumac, and Sesame Seeds. Do not confuse this for Za'atar - the arabic word for thyme. There are many different blends called Zahtar, but this blend is very common in the Middle East (especially Jordan), Turkey and North Africa. This versatile spice blend is commonly used is breads but works well with chickens, meats and fish. Our favorite way to use Zahtar is to mix it with Olive Oil to create a dip for a fresh, warm baguette. Add it to your hummus for an extra zing. It is awesome sprinkled on chicken or fish before baking or grilling. It is excellent as a salt substitute and adds a little more flavor than a simple sprinkle of lemon juice.
