Curcumin is the yellow pigment associated with the curry spice, turmeric, and to a lesser extent ginger. It is a small molecule that is the prototypical 'curcuminoid', and has effects similar to other polyphenols but within a different class. The substance curcumin is a member of the family Zingiberaceae and is obtained from the turmeric root. It contains 6% of curcuminoids, 70% curcumin, 20% of DMC, and 10% BDMC.
