Malcolm Williamson (1931-2003) was born in Australia, but came to London in 1950 and remained there for most of his remaining fifty-three years.
Williamson's Organ Concerto was dedicated to Sir Adrian Boult, who conducted the first performance. The Third Piano Concerto was dedicated to pianist John Ogdon, who played the premiere performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. The Sonata for Two Pianos was commissioned in 1967 by the Cheltenham Festival for the husband-and-wife piano duo of John Ogdon and Brenda Lucas.
