White Snakeroot is a 3 to 5 tall native perennial usually found in woods, thickets, wood margins, and wooded stream banks. This plant grows best in medium to moist soils and part shade, but will grow in full sun. White Snakeroot has small white fluffy looking flowers in loose flattened clusters at the top of the plant. Gardeners mostly use this plant in native plant gardens, woodland gardens, and in shaded parts of their landscaping. The plant can be somewhat aggressive in ideal habitat. The common name is in reference to Native American use to treat snakebites. White Snakeroot is best known for causing milk sickness in people that drank milk from cows that ate the plant. White Snakeroot attracts butterflies and is deer resistant.
