The genesis of VOYAGERS Hot Honey: I have to say that my interest in bees started some 70 years ago. The truth is what 7 year old boy was not fascinated by all things bugs. My first introduction to the ways of bees was when I had the misfortune of stepping on them while playing barefoot in our lawn filled with clover blossoms. Much more practical lessons came from a neighbor who tended a dozen or more colonies and often treated us to tastes of honey directly from the hives. As happens with the passage of time the neighbor eventually passed on and with no one to tend the hives so did his bees. However my passion for science turned me into an avid gardener along with the rest of my family. My brother and an uncle were successful owners of a nursery and landscaping business. A second brother was a professor of plant pathology at Rutgers University and a career agricultural agent. Then one day a simple observation reawakened me to the world of bees. I had not seen a bee for the last 10-15 years. I was aware of the concern for the world bee population and decided to become a beekeeper. Luckily, at that time, Rutgers extension service was offering several starter and advanced beekeeping classes that I took full advantage of. Soon I was the not only a beekeeper but learned how to enjoy the fruits of the bees labor, HONEY. I found myself preparing more and more dishes with honey. Eventually my love of spice, that burst of heat I so enjoy with hot wings, chili, shrimp, led me to incorporating that flavor into honey.
