This large, strikingly detailed Challenge Coin commemorates the critical leadership and tireless dedication of past and present U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers (CPOs) who served aboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor - Hickam (JBPHH) in Hawaii, created in 2010 as a merger of U.S. Air Force Hickham Field and U.S. Naval Station Pearl Harbor.

SPAM is a brand of canned precooked meat products introduced by Hormel Foods corporation in 1937 and is very popular in Hawaii.

The U.S. Navy grade of Chief Petty Officer (CPO), commonly referred to as "the Chief", was established April 1, 1893, to distinguish senior enlisted leaders. The grade of senior chief and master chief petty officers followed in 1958. Since the beginning, chiefs have been given the responsibility of leading sailors to be the best in the world, ready to carry out the Navy's mission when called upon.

Naval traditions are the foundation upon which many of its core values are built. Navy chiefs take pride in understanding where they came from so that they can teach the next generation of sailors these traditions. This is the core of what is meant by the term "Deck Plate Leadership," which can be described as visible leaders who set the tone, now the mission, know their people, and develop their people beyond their own expectations as a team and as individuals.
