Lincoln's Gettysburg Address One of the greatest expressions of American Democracy in the history of the US, President Abraham Lincoln delivered a dedication to the National Cemetery in Gettysburg. Trying to make sense of the violence, Lincoln searched for words to alleviate the suffering from the bloodiest battle in the Civil War. Starting with the iconic words, "Four Score and Seven Years Ago", Lincoln's speech became one of the most famous in US History. The Gettysburg address measures 10 3/4" tall by 14" wide. Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address It was one of the shortest of all inaugural addresses. Just 41 days before his assassination, President Abraham Lincoln made this speech on inauguration day, March 4, 1865; the beginning of his second term. His speech focused beyond the fighting between the North and South; he shared his personal vision of healing possible by a "just, and a lasting peace", free from "malice", and filled with "charity for all". Document measures 13 3/4" tall by 15 3/4" wide. The Emancipation Proclamation The words of the Emancipation Proclamation are legalistic, carefully chosen, and deeply rooted in political reality. They are the words of a Commander-In-Chief facing rebellion, not those of an orator offering inspiration. Intentionally restricted, the Emancipation Proclamation freed salves only under prescribed conditions. Lincoln believed this "act of justice" would ultimately receive the "gracious favor of Almighty God". The Emancipation Proclamation measures 16" wide by 13 1/2" tall. Lincoln's Letter to Mrs. Bixby Referred to as "the most beautiful letter ever written", President Lincoln's letter to Mrs. Bixby captured the reality of the war and the painful tasks involved as a President. Mrs. Bixby reportedly lost five sons in the war, and President Lincoln offered his gratitude of himself and the nation as a whole, however "weak and futile" the words, in this heartfelt letter. Document measures 9 3/4" tall by 8" wide.
