Additional Features The collector's edition DVD of John Carpenter's They Live atones for previous bare-bones presentations with a wealth of extras (which are also found on the Blu-ray edition), including a slew of promotional material not seen since its 1988 release. Carpenter fans know that the director's commentary tracks are often fun and informative affairs (see The Thing and The Fog special edition), and his contribution to They Live is on par with those efforts; the track, which was recorded over a decade ago for a region 2 DVD release of the film, also features star Roddy Piper, who's clearly pleased to chat with Carpenter again, as evidenced by his loose and funny reminiscences. Carpenter is also one of several key players featured in brand-new interviews recorded exclusively for the collector's edition, including largely underappreciated actress Meg Foster, director of photography Gary Kibbe, and Carpenter's frequent musical collaborator, composer Alan Howarth. The best of the new talking-head featurettes is a conversation with costar Keith David, which also touches on his work with Carpenter for The Thing. The set also features the film's original electronic press kit, which offers several behind-the-scenes glimpses, as well as a collection of the film's insidious faux commercials. A gallery of production stills and print promotional items and a slew of TV and theatrical spots (including trailers for Halloween II and Halloween III: Season of the Witch, both of which also received exceptional collector's edition presentations from Shout!
