Product Description Will Currie & The Country French began playing together as music majors at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. They were predominantly classically trained percussionists, but would regularly take over practice rooms at night and make pop music. The band officially formed as a one-time-only opening act for Tokyo Police Club at a show in Toronto, but they liked it, so they kept going. In stolen time in recording studios on the Laurier campus, they put together a ten-song EP called A Great Stage, which they gave away for free at shows. In 2008, the band caught the attention of Jay Ferguson of Sloan; he had seen them play at a tiny, one-room basement bar in Toronto, and after bringing home a copy of their EP, he signed them to Murderecords and released A Great Stage across Canada. They toured over the next few years with many well-established and emerging artists like Dan Mangan, Said The Whale, Arkells, Zeus, Tokyo Police Club, and more. The debut full-length album Awake, You Sleepers! was released by File Under: Music in 2011. Like A Great Stage before it, Awake, You Sleepers! was the subject of excellent reviews. Success for the band seemed to come so quickly and easily the first time they put out a record; in a matter of months, they had been taking time off of school to tour across the country with their long-time favourite artists. When the release of the second album didnât result in the same quick turn, they were unavoidably disheartened. Critics applauded their style, but the album failed to capture a wide audience. They put off recording another album for a few months at first, and then longer. More than two years passed without the band touring, engaging with media, or producing online content. Then, in January 2015, Willâs name popped up at the end of Cyanide & Happinessâ âdepressing episodeâ? in a credit for the cartoon shortâs underpinning song. Looking for someone to write and sing what they called, âthe saddest song in the world,â? the showâs creative team had sought out Will Currie and commissioned the tune. Soon after its release, there was an overwhelming response from C&H fans looking for more from the song they called âTiny Face.â? At first, during the two years between Awake, You Sleepers! and what became âTiny Face (As You Are),â? Will began composing an operetta â something he had always wanted to write,
