Product Description Pero, a sword-wielding musketeer cat, is on the run! He's guilty of the ultimate crime: rescuing mice from certain doom. In hot pursuit are three bumbling police cats, trying their best to bring Pero to justice. While evading capture, Pero stumbles upon an unfortunate boy named Pierre, who is mistreated by his two greedy and selfish brothers. Pero soon convinces Pierre that he is better off leaving this deprived life behind him. The two set off together to find their fortune, and hear of an announcement from the castle: The King is looking for a husband for his beautiful daughter, Princess Rose. However, the dastardly Lucifer arrives and spoils the plan when he manages to kidnap the Princess! Culminating in a thrilling chase scene on the steeples of Lucifer's castle, Puss 'n Boots is an action-packed anime classic! Key animation by Hayao Miyazaki, director of Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away. Amazon.com The Wonderful World of Puss 'N Boots reveals that an outlaw can possess some very redeeming qualities and suggests that sometimes the seemingly simple-minded just need a little push to live up to their full potential. The Japanese 1969 classic Puss 'N Boots details the story of a good-hearted outlaw cat named Pero and his role in the coming of age of a young boy named Pierre. Consistently chased by three blundering police cats for the crime of saving the lives of mice, Pero is a scrappy cat whose sword rarely pauses in its offensive. When Pero encounters the mistreated and innocent Pierre, he convinces Pierre to leave his unkind brothers and accompanying Pero on his wandering travels. Amidst the action-packed sword fights and chase scenes, Pero convinces Pierre to pose as a Prince and suitor to the Princess. The initially timid boy begins a process of maturation that leads him to fight for the Princess's hand and eventually reveals his heretofore unseen innate strength and optimism. This DVD features the original (restored and remastered) Puss 'N Boots as it was released in Japan in 1969 as well as the English dubbed version featuring Fred Ladd and optional English subtitles and slates. Hayao Miyazaki's (My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa Valley of the Wind) animation work in key action scenes showcases his early talents and is of special interest to Miyazaki fans.
