The discovery of Assam tea is attributed to the Singhpow tribe in Northern Assam. They are known to be the earliest users of the tea plant as a medicinal herb and beverage. Motivating Fair Trade The Tao of Tea selected to join the Fair Trade movement early in its inception. Although we are a specialty tea company and already pay some of the highest prices in the industry, we began our participation to help motivate others to join the movement. Fair Trade Premium The Tao of Tea chooses to pay a premium to tea producers on top of the market price. The additional funds are managed under the supervision of a non-profit organization, by the tea estate and by representatives of the workers. Our intent is to facilitate more democratic working conditions, fair wages for the tea workers and premiums for their labor so that they can afford improved housing, healthcare, and education. It also enforces child labor restrictions and promotes environmentally sound farming. Flavor Profile A dark, smooth, full-bodied brew with malty, caramel undertones. Pairs well with milk and sugar.
