The Little Prince is a French-language work, the best known of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Published in 1943 in New York simultaneously with its English translation, it is a poetic and philosophical tale under the guise of a children's tale.
Language, simple and stripped, because it is intended to be understood by children, is in reality for the narrator the privileged vehicle of a symbolic conception of life. Each chapter recounts a meeting of the little prince who leaves him perplexed about the absurd behavior of "big people". Each of these encounters can be read as an allegory.
Watercolors are part of the text and contribute to this purity of language: stripping and depth are the main qualities of the work.
It reads an invitation from the author to find the child in himself, because "all the great people were first children. (But few of them remember.) ". The book is dedicated to Leon Werth, but "when he was a little boy".
