With this 15-song compilation, Nonesuch launches an ongoing series of Frisell Best-Of discs, each designed to focus on a specific aspect of his astonishingly varied catalogue. For more than 20 years, and over the course of 22 discs for the label, Frisell has created work as good-naturedly idiosyncratic as it is brilliant, touching on both familiar genres and a generous helping of sounds yet to be named. This inaugural collection, with liner notes by Elvis Costello, documents Frisell's excursions into what can broadly be called folk music, his highly personal take on country, bluegrass, blues and Americana.
