Seen as one the highpoints of his musical career, and this performance especially as one of the most memorable, the late Maestro Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonics appearance at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Japan, in October 1994 featured Modest Mussorgskys tone poem A Night on Bare Mountain in its seldom-heard original version, Igor Stravinskys suite from his ballet The Firebird, and Tchaikovskys Fifth Symphony, which only met modest success upon its 1888 orchestral premiere but became before long one of the composers best loved and most often heard works.
