Purple Leaf Tea is a cultivar of the Assamica varietal whose bushes grow purple leaves due to a high level of the antioxidant: Anthocyanins. Purple Tea is low in caffeine. Similar to a green tea, this purple tea is unoxidized to retain the most health benefits. Tumoi Purple Tea tastes of sweet plums and fresh spring greens. Unblended, the natural liquor colour is green-blue. With a drop of lemon, however, the steeped tea turns vibrant purple-pink - an entirely new tea experience. OUR PARTNER FARM: Tumoi Teas is set in the Nadi Hills in the rift valley of Kenya. In collaboration with other like-minded partners, Boaz Katah (the current manager of Tumoi Teas) and his partners are setting up a limited company made up of 100 farmers. Tumoi Teas is in the process of obtaining organic and fair trade certification. Tumoi Tea's mission is to produce quality teas that provide fair and sustainable wages for tea-farming families. Since 2012 they have created sustainable jobs for youth and women in rural Kenya and opened the country's first small-scale, farmer-owned, artisanal tea factory. Currently they employ 8 tea workers at the factory, 30 people to hand pluck leaves in the garden, and over 10 small-scale tea growers. Over 80% of the employees are women, and they support hundreds of small-scale herbal tea farmers in their community. By teaming up with the Women's Herbal Tea Co-op in Eastern Kenya, Tumoi Teas is also helping to distribute organic Kenyan herbs to global markets. Tumoi teas has a literacy program with three schools around the factory. Most of the children are not able to read and communicate well in English (the official language in Kenya). The aim is to bring the children up to par with the rest of the children in the country when it comes to communication.
