Swiss Chard, Fordhook Giant Seeds: 50 to 60 days. Package contains approximately 150 Swiss Chard, Fordhook Giant Seeds. Germination: 9 to 12 days at 55 to 70 F. Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep, 6 inches apart with 18 inches in between plants. Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard has broad, thick, crumpled leaves that are larger than other types of chard. It is easy to grow. Enjoy it like you would spinach or other greens, such as cut up in salads or sautéed. This variety is both cold- and heat-tolerant. Leaves are 24-48" long and have 2 1/2 inch thick white stalks. Swiss Chard is a nutritious, green, leafy vegetable that can be easily added to all kinds of recipes. While the chard leaves are green, the stems of the plant can be different colors (such as red, pink, or yellow). Swiss Chard is perfect for early spring or fall growing, since it can handle cool temperatures and still thrive. Planting, Growing, and Harvesting: You may wish to soak Swiss Chard seeds for a few minutes before planting. Doing this can help speed up germination. Plant seeds in soil that is at least 50F, in a location that will receive part shade to full sun (more sun is best). Swiss Chard does not require a lot of upkeep, but be sure the soil is adequately moist with even watering. To harvest Swiss Chard leaves, cut off the outer stalks or the whole plant above the soil line. Swiss Chard will re-grow for you to harvest again.
