To be fair--although it's certainly budget-friendly--this is probably one of the more problematic of the numerous garlic urns currently on the market, due to its small size. It's attractive enough, in that "white goes with everything," unfired-pottery kind of way. And the Norpro earthenware garlic keeper is designed to provide the requisite ventilation and dryness for your fresh, firm bulbs. Unfortunately, large heads of garlic tend to last longer than small ones, and you'd be hard-garlic-pressed to fit them into this container. Even smaller heads require a bit of needle-threading to remove. Norpro suggests that this model is ideal for storing mushrooms and onions, too. Best to forego portobellos and vidalias in favor of buttons and pearls. --Tony Mason
