Lead track 'You're So Cool' was released last year and has picked up nearly 3 million YouTube videos to date and received spot plays on Steve Lamacq's BBC 6Music show. Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=gxRq23qVE8A Jonathan Bree began releasing solo records in 2013, in the decade prior to that he was one half of indie duo The Brunettes. His solo output is a departure from the music he was making before; it has taken a darker, cinematic turn. Like his previous albums Sleepwalking has a heavy orchestrated element featuring real strings, celeste and soprano vocals. His arrangements draw distinct influence from orchestral pop of a bygone era (think Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra), but many of the songs dip in and out of the avant-garde in a way that is also distinctly modern. The album features duets with Catalunyan musician Clara Vials (second single Say You Love Me Too ) and fellow New Zealand musician Princess Chelsea ( Static and Plucking Petals ), both of who feature on Bree's more Gainsbourg inspired pop songs. There's a reoccurring theme of seduction in the album's narrative; title track Sleepwalking sees Bree's trademark baritone voice take on an erotic tone as he asks a lover to leave the dull security of her current relationship ( He looks good stock, he seems well bred, Sleepwalking for so many years, ) while saturated guitars swirl around minor chords, and in second track and forthcoming single Boombox Serenade , Bree sings about seducing someone with the use of a boombox.
