Joseph Yule, Jr. was born on September 23, 1920 in Brooklyn, and began performing at the age of fifteen months as part of his parents' vaudeville routine, wearing a specially tailored tuxedo. He took his stage name from his role in the Mickey McGuire comedies, but ran into legal trouble from Fox for using the name and changed it to Rooney. Credited with the longest career in show business, Rooney is the only actor to have appeared in silent films and still be performing in the twenty-first century. This release features the four Rooney movies Hoosier Schoolboy, Love Laughs at Andy Hardy, The Big Wheel, and Quicksand. Disc 1 - HOOSIER SCHOOLBOY: (Drama) A teacher intervenes to help turn a rebellious young man and his alcoholic father's life around. Disc 2 - LOVE LAUGHS AT ANDY HARDY: (Drama; Romance) Andy Hardy goes to college after returning from World War II for a reunion with his sweetheart. This would be the last regular Andy Hardy film in the series (it is also sometimes titled Uncle Andy Hardy). Disc 3 - THE BIG WHEEL: (Drama; Action) The ambitious son of a legendary racing driver struggles to make a name of his own. Disc 4 - QUICKSAND: (Crime; Mystery; Film Noir) An auto mechanic borrows money from his employer's cash register to go on a date, which only pushes him deeper into debt and crime.
