An annual flowering plant that grows up to 8-12" (20-30 cm). Beautiful large flowers in different colors, with a diameter of 2-4" (5-9 cm) with brown, black, or white spots around the center. Likes sunny areas. Recommended for flower beds, borders, rocky hills, and terraces.
Planting instructions: Sow seeds directly into your flower garden after all risk of frost has past. You can also start Gazania indoors, 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost. Seeds can be lightly sprinkled with soil, or you can just press them firmly to the ground. Spray the seeds, cover with foil, and put in a warm (64-68 ºF), bright place. Airing and removing of condensate are needed daily. Seedlings appear in one or two weeks. While Gazanias are usually grown as an annual, it can be grown as a perennial in warmer areas of the country. After a few years, the plants may become crowded. Dig up and divide into clumps. Gazania plants can also be propagated by rooting cuttings. Plant Spacing: 9" - 12". Ideal Germination Temperature: 60-65 degrees. Days to Germination: 10 15. Gazania plants are easy to grow. They do well in hot, dry weather. They even tolerate salt!! Gazania prefers good to average, sandy soil. The soil needs to be well drained. Established plants do best in dry soil conditions. Water plants only during long, extended droughts. Fertilize plants every 4-5 weeks, with a general-purpose fertilizer. Bring indoors in the fall, before the first frost, and grow gazania as a houseplant.
