English daisy flowers (Bellis perennis L.) have a yellow disk in the center and are surrounded with delicate petals of white, pink or even red.

Flower stems usually reach 3 to 6 inches in height. Sometimes called lawn daisy or European daisy, petals of the flower fold up at night and open again with the sun.

Instructions how to grow Bellis:

The English daisy originates in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 4 through 8 in Southwestern Eurasia. English daisies prefer growing in full sun exposure of at least six hours of direct sunlight when grown in a cool summer area. If summer temperatures turn hot, the flowers fade early and die back quickly. In hot summer climates, provide partial shade exposure. Move English daisies grown in containers into areas with afternoon shade if a heat wave hits. This ornamental perennial loves rich fertile soil with good drainage. Mix in 2 to 4 inches of organic materials into the soil before planting the English daisies. Use materials such as shredded leaves, dried grass clippings, well-rotted compost or aged manure. These materials enrich the soil, keeps moisture in the soil and improves drainage.English daisies do not tolerate hot dry conditions. Water the perennials regularly during their active growing season. Dig down 3 inches into the soil to check for moisture, soak the soil around the plants when the soil is dry to that depth.
