A counted cross stitch pattern of adele Bloch-Bauer, a notable Viennese hostess and wife of a wealthy sugar merchant, in a fanciful golden gown with Byzantine motifs. Klimt painted her in a shower of gold reminiscent of Zeus' golden shower upon Danae, so that it is hard to tell where the dress ends and the background begins. The original painting was plundered by the Nazis and only returned recently to the rightful heirs, who sold it in 2006 for a record 135 million. This is a detail of the full portrait; see KLI005 for the full painting. (Art Nouveau, 1907) This pattern is solidly stitched. Any color fabric may be used.
