We're sure that even a short statured version of the legendary wizard had quite a bit of panache. Now whether or not he was able to grow a beard at an early age? Thats up for debate. Personally, we stand on the side that believes that Ol?? (did you know that was his original name? It means Dreamer" or "Of Dreams!) had to be born with at least a little bit of stubble. Maybe its a wizard thing! Besides, even if its not true, its still pretty hilarious to think of Gandalf as a pint-sized dude, playing hide and seek or running a game of tag with his little buddies!
