In 1890 the NC Candy Company got its start in Lexington, North Carolina. In the early 1900s the name changed to Piedmont Candy Company. Red Bird candies were made using open copper kettles to heat pure cane sugar to 300 degrees. On average, over 2,000 pounds of candy puffs and sticks were made. The company continued to grow and in 2000 expanded again to meet demand. While modern production processes were added the basics stayed the same: our candy stripes are still molded and applied by hand making each finished puff a little unique. RED BIRD SOUTHERN REFRESH - MINTS are still crafted with a few simple ingredients like pure cane sugar and natural wintergreen oil. Our candy and facility are free of the top 8 allergens (Milk, Eggs, Fish, Crustacean Shellfish, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Wheat and Soy). Our delicious candy puffs are also Gluten-Free, Fat-Free, Certified Kosher and Project Non-GMO Certified. All that is left is the great taste of wintergreen that melts in your mouth.
