Rebel de Pere en Fils

Les Surprises was born under the star of French opera. Founded in 2010, this period instrument ensemble takes its name from Rameau and his opera Les Surprises de l'Amour. Marrying stage drama and chamber music, the group's debut album (appropriately) draws on the music of 18th century French opera, focusing on the music of Jean-Fery Rebel and his son, Francois. Featuring soprano Juliette Perret and baritone Etienne Bazola, the recording, which presents a selection of works by both composers arranged for chamber orchestra, sheds new light on a mostly forgotten repertoire.
