Columbine (Aquilegia Caerulea Crimson Star) - Columbines are easy to establish from flower seeds, and they explode into brilliant color in late spring. This Aquilegia Caerulea Crimson Star features clear, bright, crimson colored, 4 inch flowers with white corollas and a tuft of yellow stamens. They are sizable plants, reaching 30 inches or more, and they certainly add some old-fashioned charm in the summer border or flower garden. How To Grow Columbine Aquilegia When.1.Sow columbine seeds directly into the ground in the spring. Allow the plant to self-seed after it blooms and it will produce many volunteer seedlings in the following year. 2.Alternatively, sow seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last spring frost.  SOW. Columbine will germinate best if sown in seed trays or pots and chilled (refrigerated) at 40 degrees F for 3 to 4 weeks. Press Aquilegia flower seed into the soil but do not cover it. Light is beneficial to germination. Keep the soil moist at 65-70 degrees F. Seedlings emerge in 22-30 days. Or, Columbine seed can be directly sown into prepared seed beds with loosened, weed free soil after frost season has passed.
