Digitalis purpurea, the foxglove or common foxglove, is a species of flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae, native to and widespread throughout most of temperate Europe Digitalis is a biennial or perennial herb. Also known as foxglove, also known as purple flower digitalis. The whole plant is covered with short hairs. Leaves alternate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate. It blooms in early summer. Most of the flowers form terminal long racemes. The Corolla is bell-shaped and lip-shaped. The upper lip is purplish red, and the lower lip is white with purple spots. Digitalis is native to Western Europe. It is an ornamental plant and a medicinal plant. Time-Outdoors after frost / Indoors weeks before last frost. Plant Foxglove Seeds-Sow foxglove seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil, do not cover. Light aids germination. Kept at 65-75° F., germination is in 14-21 days. Transplant seedlings into the garden 18-24 in. apart. Can direct sow foxglove seed into prepared seed beds after danger of frost.
