This Parastone ceramic tea-light candleholder is inspired in the 20th century Vienna Secessionist artist Gustav Klimt's masterwork "The Kiss" (1907-1908) during his iconic golden period. Inspired in the symbolic use of gold leaf in Italo-Byzantine art, during the latter part of his career, Klimt began to lavishly decorate his works with gold leaf. The organic decorations on the figures in "The Kiss" also reflect an influence from art nouveau, where the geometrical patterns of the male contrast the round and curvilinear decorations on the female figure. Klimt stresses the intimacy of the moment depicted by both placing the couple in an idyllic organic setting, at oneness with nature, and by engulfing the figures in a golden organic cocoon.
