Don Powell studied art for seven years in Kansas City. He was working in Chicago in 1927 when he came to San Francisco on his honeymoon and opted to remain. At his studio on Montgomery Street he did commercial work for Shell Oil, Golden State Milk, Sunset Press, and others. During the 1930s he was employed by the Federal Art Project while living in the Berkeley hills, and during WWII he was a draftsman-modeler at Kaiser Shipyards. Powell died in Hayward, CA on Sept. 5, 1964.
