He was a leading performer in Norwegian advertising and book art in the 1950s and worked 15 years as chief designer for the electronics manufacturer Philips Knut Yran illustrated a lot of books and book covers, drawing postcards, record covers and not least posters, more with Norway's advertising and trolls, including the winning poster for the Oslo Winter Olympics in 1952. He also designed the back of the medal to the games. He won several first prizes in international drawing and design competitions, including the World Poster Championship for his gentle advertising figure Samegutten in 1959. It is still used as a packaging cutlery on the boxes with Joika.
