Linaria maroccana is a lovely wild flower that is native to Morocco. It is commonly called Toadflax and it has miniature snapdragon-like flowers. In the wild the blooms are violet in color, but through cultivation there are now shades of lavender, yellow, orange, red, pink, and white. Hummingbirds and butterflies both enjoy the blooms. Toadflax, also called Baby Snapdragon, is lovely in the front of the flower bed! Start Toadflax seed outdoors in the spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Prepare a loosened and weed-free seedbed. The seed should be gently pressed into the soil but not covered. Keep the seed moist until germination occurs. With a temperature range of 55 - 65F, germination is usually within 21 days. Grow Toadflax in full sun to partial shade and in well-drained, light, sandy soil. It is usually resistant to deer.
