Genmaicha is a blend of Japanese Sencha Green Tea leaves and roasted organic rice. Enjoy a nutty aroma with hints of roasted rice that balance well with the more vegetable Sencha tea notes. Pantenger Organic Genmaicha Green tea can be fresh and nutty or extremely bitter. Using the right water temperature (170 F to 180 F) will extract the tea leaves’ sweet soluble components such as theanine. Using a higher temperature will bring a high amount of the bitter and astringent components to your cup such as caffeine and catechins. Green teas realize its soluble components fast. Do not infuse for more than 2 minutes. Japanese legend tells us that in the 15th Century, a servant dropped a few rice kernels hidden in his sleeve while serving tea to a Samurai during a war committee. Offended, the Samurai beheaded the servant with his sword and then drank the tea. However, surprised to find that the rice enhanced the tea instead of ruining it, and remorseful for his cruelty, he decided to call the tea Genmai Cha (roasted rice tea), to honour the memory of the servant.
