California Poppies are native to California and Oregon; and are the California state flower. They are listed as a Tender Perennial (short lived) but are most often treated as an annual. They are easy to grow from seed, plant in the fall in mild climates or in the spring. Sow seeds directly as poppies do not transplant easily. California poppies are a great addition to any informal garden and are especially good in rock gardens. Deadheading and light irrigation will encourage blooming throughout the summer.
