Product Description
Three great string quartets dating from the same decade are coupled together on this scintillating Amadeus Quartet CD. While better known for their recordings of Classical repertoire, the Amadeus played the Verdi at their very first recital in January 1948 at Londons Wigmore Hall. Out of the catalogue for some years, this disc is now appropriately re-released for Verdi Year 2013.
Review
The Amadeus version of No.1, coupled with Verdis sole Quartet, is well worth considering. It is played with genuine fervour and expertise, and beautifully recorded --Penguin Guide, 1982 (Tchaikovsky)
The Amadeus play with total commitment, and this is among their best recordings. They bring great warmth to this piece and are admirably served by the DG engineers --Penguin Guide, 1982 (Verdi)
