Rare purple prickly pear cactus. This listing is for one gorgeous Opuntia ‘Santa Rita’ cactus pad (you root them by planting them in cactus soil, ideally on a warm day). We have some gorgeous ones growing almost-too-happy, so why not spread some cacti love?. Blooms beautiful yellow flowers and produces prickly pea fruit. This listing is for one real live cactus pad (4-5" each), the pad is unrooted. It will root easily when planted in gritty, well-draining soil. This cactus can grow quickly, especially when planted in ground. If planted in a container, the cactus size will be more contained. Pads can be removed to start new plants or keep cactus pruned. This rare cactus plant turns a deep purple in cold temperatures or extensive sun exposure. Great potted plant - have mine in a pot, even here in the Southwest. Pads should be planted in the dirt on a warm day, after they have fully calloused (the wound has dried over where they were cut). Handling tips: Wet the pad before planting (keeps the tiny hair-like prickers from flying) and use kitchen tongs - with rubber covers over the tips - to handle the pads without scarring them while repotting. Care: Peak growth season; Summer Dormant: Winter Propagation: Take cuttings during growth season, Spring is ideal. Pot on a warm, sunny day. Water when soil is dry to the touch.
