In flashbacks, the filmmakers explore Robin's unhappy past on the island of Ohara. She studied archeology, hoping she'd be able to join her absent scientist-mother. But the scholars at the Tree of Knowledge Library were attacked by agents of the World Government for violating the ban on studying the 100-year period of history known as "The White Century." Robin escaped the destruction of the island and has remained a fugitive ever since.
